Summer Cross Country Training

June 6-July 29, 2022 (8 Weeks)

When track season ends and the summer is about to begin, it is time to start thinking about cross country training. It can be hard to stay motivated in the summer months without a team environment and organized training plan. For the summer months we want to provide support for young athletes to prepare for their cross country endeavors. Whether they have high hopes of State Championships and college scholarships or if they just simply want to push themselves further than they have before, we are there for their training needs. In this program each runner will receive a personal schedule suited for their mileage and training needs. Fall improvement is made in the summer and we are excited to help runners take a stride forward in their pre-season training.

In the 8 week session between June and the start of the school year we hope to provide athletes with a solid summer of base training that includes more than just direction in their running plan. We also will provide instruction on warm ups, stretching, injury prevention routines, drills and more. Summer is also a great time for learning. Every couple weeks runners will get to hear from coaches and guest speakers on topics like running in college, nutrition, injury prevention, footwear choices and goal setting.

8 WEEKS OF TRAINING INCLUDE

· Customized training plan communication through the app, Final Surge

· Communication in person and on our training log app

· Opportunity to have 6 days a week of in-person accountability

· Proper warm up and cool down routines

· Summer base workouts, Fartleks, hills, tempos and more

· Drills, skills and injury prevention

· Educational workshops and speakers

THE COACHES

This program will be led by RunningLane Head Coach, Will Rodgers, Coach Sean Allan and Coach Austin Woods.

Will Rodgers

Will has been the “genius” behind the RunningLane training philosophy since graduating from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he earned a BS in Biology with an Exercise Physiology cognate. He competed for both the Cross Country and Track teams and was a five-time qualifier to the NCAA Division II National Championships including XC, the outdoor 1500m, and the indoor Mile. He still holds several program records at UAH. During his coaching career, Will has helped over 200 athletes reach personal best times in distances ranging from the 800-meter dash to ultra-marathons. To date, he has helped over 50+ runners qualify for the Boston Marathon and has been featured in running magazines such as Runner's World, Under Armour - Map My Run. Will also coached high school cross-country teams to state championship berths as well as several high school runners to individual state titles. Currently, Will coaches all levels of athletes, from those working to win their age group divisions at local road races, to those with Olympic Trials aspirations. Will has a special talent for helping struggling athletes renew their passion for racing and have break-through performances. In his spare time, Will enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, reading, running trails, and continuing to compete in local road races.

Sean Allan

Sean was first introduced to running by joining the track team in the 7th grade.  What began as a way to hang out with friends turned into a life long passion.  Sean was awarded All-State Honors is senior year of High school in Cross Country, the Indoor 1600m, and outdoor 4x800 relay, where he anchored his team to a 2nd place finish in the 2nd largest classification.  Sean went on to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he competed in both Cross Country and Track & Field. Sean was a 2-time Team Captain for the Chargers and a scoring member of the program's first Cross Country Conference Championship.  With over 20 years of running and coaching experience Sean has helped anyone from beginners to serious high school athletes.  Sean is an active member of the Huntsville running community and enjoys participating in local races.  In his free time he is the volunteer track coach at his kid's elementary school and enjoys introducing young people to the sport.

Austin Woods

Austin knew he wanted to coach since his freshman year of college cross country at Trevecca University in Nashville. During his 5 years of running at the collegiate level, Austin moved from walk-on to scholarship athlete and team captain for 2 years. During his time in college, Austin was an assistant coach at Centennial High School in Franklin, TN until he was appointed to head distance coach in early 2020. During his time at Centennial, he helped coach multiple athletes to all-state performances while also helping get multiple athletes the chance to compete at the collegiate level. Once the pandemic started in 2020, ending his fifth collegiate season early, Austin moved to Huntsville. Shortly after moving, he was hired by James Clemens High School as an assistant distance coach where he helped coach athletes from 7th to 12th grade in qualifying for State. Austin loves coaching high school athletes to help find their passion for the sport and be able to compete at the highest levels. Austin enjoys spending time with his wife, Isabel, fostering cats, watching basketball, and still training and competing in races from time to time.
